Mona Rejino

Mona Rejino is an accomplished pianist, teacher, composer, arranger, and clinician. She holds a B.M. degree from West Texas A&M University with distinction and M.M. in piano performance from the University of North Texas. In 2015, the former presented her their Distinguished Alumna Award. In demand as a clinician, she has presented workshops, master classes, and showcases in over 125 cities throughout the United States and Canada. Mona’s teaching career spans more than 35 years and includes independent teaching in her home studio as well as teaching private lessons and accompanying at the Hockaday School in Dallas. Her teaching philosophy is centered around nurturing a love and life-long appreciation of music for each individual student. Mona is co-author of the critically acclaimed Hal Leonard Student Piano Library and Adult Piano Method. As a composer and arranger, much of her inspiration comes from the needs of her own piano students. Her numerous published works in the Hal Leonard piano catalogue include solos, duets, collections of original compositions, chamber music, and arrangements. Her compositions and arrangements received positive critical reviews in leading national music journal publications including Keys, Clavier Companion, Piano Magazine, and American Music Teacher, and many are included in the National Federation of Music Study Clubs Festival required list. Mona is author of Essential Elements Piano Theory, which is a comprehensive course designed to help students master theory concepts and apply them in a musical context. In 2019 Mona was commissioned to compose a collaberative work for the MTNA National Conference in Spokane, Washington where her trio Impressions of New York for piano, viola or violin, and cello was premiered. She was also selected as the 2021 Commissioned Composer by the Texas Music Teachers Association, resulting in a song cycle for mezzo-soprano titled: Music: The Gift to Sing. Mona adjudicates numerous state, regional, and national composition contests, as well as piano festivals and competitions.
